Privacy Policy
Last updated: today
Valtoranyzxul ("we", "our", "us") is a small Canadian studio based in Vancouver, British Columbia. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through our website and journal product, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have. We follow the principles set out in the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the British Columbia Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
1. Information we collect
We try to collect as little information as possible. The categories below describe everything we may collect through this website and the journal application.
1.1 Information you give us directly
- Your name, email address and message when you submit our contact form.
- Account details such as a display name and email when you create a journal account.
- Optional billing information when you choose a paid plan, processed by our third-party payment provider.
- The content of your journal entries, which remains private to your account.
1.2 Information collected automatically
- Standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited, referring URL, timestamp).
- Aggregated, non-identifying analytics about which pages are most useful.
- Strictly necessary and preference cookies as described in our Cookies Policy.
2. Why we use your information
We use personal information for the following purposes:
- To respond to your enquiries sent through the contact form.
- To create, manage and secure your journal account.
- To deliver the features of the plan you have chosen.
- To process payments and provide receipts.
- To improve our website and product based on aggregated usage trends.
- To meet our legal obligations under Canadian law.
3. Legal basis and consent
Where required, we rely on your express consent (for example, the consent checkbox on the contact form), the performance of a contract (delivering a paid plan) or our legitimate interest in operating a secure, reliable website. You may withdraw consent at any time by writing to us.
4. How we share information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share limited information only with carefully chosen service providers who help us run the studio, such as:
- Our hosting and email infrastructure providers.
- Our payment processor for paid plans.
- Our shipping partner for the printed Companion Notebook.
These providers are contractually bound to use your data only for the services we request and to keep it confidential.
5. International transfers
Some of our service providers process data outside of Canada. When this happens, we use providers with appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent commitments.
6. Data retention
We keep contact form messages for up to twenty-four months. Journal accounts and their contents are retained until you delete them or request closure of your account. Billing records are kept for the period required by Canadian tax law, typically six years.
7. Security
We use encryption in transit (HTTPS) for all pages and forms. Optional cloud backups of your journal are encrypted at rest. Access to production systems is limited to a small number of authenticated team members and reviewed regularly.
8. Your rights
Subject to applicable Canadian law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate information.
- Withdraw consent and request deletion where appropriate.
- Receive a copy of your journal in a portable format.
- Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
To exercise any of these rights, write to us using the details on our Contacts page. We will reply within thirty days.
9. Children
Our services are intended for adults and are not directed at children under the age of sixteen. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Significant changes will be highlighted on the home page for at least thirty days.
11. Contact
